Folic acid (vitamin B9) is a synthetic form of folate used to produce healthy red blood cells, synthesize DNA, and prevent cell damage. It is primarily used to prevent neural tube defects (e.g., spina bifida) in pregnancy and to treat megaloblastic anemia caused by folate deficiency
